Kristen Edwards’ goals during the Wyoming Congressional Award program instilled in her a great passion and are now an important part of her life.
Edwards, formerly known as Kristen Kirk during the program, earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. She received her Gold Medal in 2000.
For Voluntary Public Service, she visited the elderly in a nursing home, sorted clothes at Salvation Army and helped with the elementary sports team for the YMCA. In addition, she volunteered at LifeChoice Pregnancy.
“My favorite part of the program was meeting all the various people involved in all the places I was able to volunteer and to learn to work in a team setting,” she said.
Edwards used photography and sign language goals for Personal Development. Her Physical Fitness goals were in volleyball and track.
For her Expedition, Edwards took overnight backpacking trips.
“Each experience contributes to the person I now am,” Edwards said. “Some of my goals directly opened incredible doors for me to walk through in life.”
For instance, Edwards is now employed at LifeChoice Pregnancy Center and does photography on the side for extra income.
“I am deeply passionate about reaching out to young women struggling with an unintended pregnancy,” Edwards said.
Edwards lived in Lingle, Sundance and Cheyenne during the program. She now resides in Cheyenne with her family and her main occupation is a wife and mother. She also organizes parties and coordinates weddings. In addition, Edwards takes photos of families and weddings. In addition, she is the coordinator of the local Mothers of Preschoolers group.
